Watch this short introduction to the PSIP modality and our 3-Person Apprentice Training. Learn an advanced,
comprehensive, somatic, and highly relational trauma modality specifically designed for the psychedelic state of consciousness.
Have you felt that adding more insight or more awareness of patterns is not fundamentally changing those patterns despite years of engagement or hard work in therapy? Maybe, just maybe, it is not the client that fails therapy but the therapy that fails the client?
Perhaps you’ve heard about the promise of psychedelic therapy, knowing that these medicines yield much greater access and potential for transformation, but you don’t want to practice underground and risk your license to do good, meaningful work. It is okay to want more success, more healing, more progress for yourself and for the people in your care. You did not get into this field to put band-aids on profound wounds. And now, you don’t have to.
Here’s the good news, you don’t have to wait for any new medicines to be approved by the FDA in order to provide this treatment to your clients because you can do this work using doctor-recommended medicines that are already available. We’ve been doing this work clinically for years, and you can too.
We’ve been using medical cannabis and ketamine to address mental health concerns such as anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, complex PTSD, and developmental trauma. With the Psychedelic Somatic Interactional Psychotherapy (PSIP) modality, cannabis moves from being a recreational experience or symptom management medicine, to being one of the most deeply excavating psychedelics we’ve seen particularly in its ability to resolve dissociation.
The way we use cannabis and ketamine in the PSIP modality is quite different from any "sitter model" and yields very different results. Given that PSIP is a comprehensive, somatic, and highly relational trauma therapy modality developed specifically for the psychedelic state of consciousness, there is a lot to say and show about it which we do in our 45-minute Introduction to PSIP video.
Psychedelic therapy, and particularly Psychedelic Somatic Interactional Psychotherapy (PSIP) is an art form as much as it is a science, and as such, it can't be taught over a Zoom call to a 100 person class. We have developed a training program that is so highly experiential, highly relational, deeply personal, and reliant on the students receiving their own PSIP sessions as part of their training, that is why it is more appropriately an "apprenticeship." The PSI Apprentice training is the gold standard for psychedelic education.
Based on our experience of facilitating psychotherapy trainings since 2008, we have found that the single most important factor for learning PSIP (and psychedelic therapy in general) is to understand the work from the inside out by receiving it. The somatic (autonomic) and relational processing that becomes active in the psychedelic state, and which is at the heart of PSIP, needs to be experienced to be fully and truly understood. Having a cognitive grasp of the material through lecture classes and watching video sessions is important, but knowing the process viscerally through one's own personal experience develops depth, nuance, confidence, and mastery with the modality.
The Apprentice Training is designed around students receiving their own PSIP sessions and observing the live sessions of other students. PSI instructors work with an extremely small student cohort of just 3 people where each student will receive multiple medicine-assisted therapy sessions, observe live sessions, and engage in integration work.

Psychedelic Somatic Interactional Psychotherapy (PSIP) is an advanced,
comprehensive, somatic, and highly relational trauma modality designed specifically for the psychedelic state of consciousness. PSIP has predictive maps, nervous system modeling, and somatic and relational interventions that help to facilitate bottom-up resolution, and not just top down symptom management. The primary focus of PSIP is on psychobiological defenses, dissociation, and traumatic transference dynamics. A PSIP therapist is an active participant in the psychedelic consciousness of the client, not a removed, passive holder of space. This is all because at PSI, we believe that human relational wounding requires human relational healing.
Most students enter the Psychedelic Somatic Institute (PSI) Apprentice Training with compartmentalized, well-managed, and intact trauma from
childhood. As an apprentice student, a big part of your learning experience will be through your own process—your own psychedelic sessions. Throughout your training, you will discover an exceptionally different processing pathway in yourself that operates below your mind. You will discover a visceral solution to traumas that have been living in dissociation. The combination of the medicine (cannabis and/or ketamine) and your autonomic nervous system pathway will take you to your core wounding—even in a training container.
Psychedelic therapy, and particularly, Psychedelic Somatic Interactional Psychotherapy (PSIP) is an art form. It cannot be learned simply through large online trainings or lecture classes. This is why we have designed the Apprentice Training to include a 5-Day In-Person Experiential training component that is highly experiential and highly relational in nature where we provide a highly-attuned, well-held, in-person container for only 3 students at a time. During this in-person training, students receive and observe live PSIP sessions that use cannabis and ketamine. As a PSI student, you will start off by learning through your own process, your own psychedelic session, before moving on to lecture classes and group supervisions.
Fully legal and effective psychedelic therapy is already here. At Psychedelic Somatic Institute (PSI), you will learn how to confidently and competently work with aboveground, widely-available, doctor-prescribed (ketamine) or doctor-recommended (cannabis) medicines in your private practice to facilitate deep, profound healing. You will learn how to pair these medicines with a modality that is specifically designed for the psychedelic state of consciousness. You did not become a therapist to put band-aids on profound wounds. And now, you don't have to.

"One of the most difficult losses in my life was a sudden death of my son from an accident ... In this process—with the help of the medicine (cannabis & ketamine)—I could feel what happened in my body ... But I'll tell you what. Nothing's been the same ... I didn't even realize 'til the night of that anniversary that it was that day. I was calm, relaxed, happy. I didn't even think about that date.”
Osteopathic Physician, Medical Cannabis Expert, Author, PSI Student
"I was really blown away. Just super impressed by this work. The training was incredible... My personal experience of receiving the sessions was profound and quite healing for me. The demonstration of the body's innate healing mechanisms and self-corrective mechanisms that's just so obvious with the PSIP model. It's not subtle."
Registered Clinical Counsellor, Clinical Supervisor, PSI Student
"It was two puffs of cannabis. With two puffs of cannabis that I did, and I was just like, "what the heck?" ... But, in the end of the time, feeling a sense of rest and stillness, and no charge in my body in a way that I had never felt before. I'm not living at a '5'. That's not my baseline anymore ... I'm returning to this '7', '8' place."
